Welcome to the SOCOM Small Business Innovation Research Program

  SOCOM Mission

Provide fully capable Special Operations Forces (SOF) to defend the United States and its interests. Plan and synchronize operations against terrorist networks.

  SOCOM Vision

To be the premier team of special warriors, thoroughly prepared, properly equipped, and highly motivated: at the right place, at the right time, facing the right adversary, leading the Global War on Terrorism, accomplishing strategic objectives of the United States.

  DoD SBIR Program Mission

The purpose of DoD's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is to harness the innovative talents of our Nation's small technology companies for U.S. military and economic strength. The SBIR program funds early-stage Research & Development (R&D) at small technology companies and is designed to:
  • stimulate technological innovation;
  • increase private sector commercialization of federal R&D;
  • increase small business participation in federally funded R&D; and
  • foster participation by minority and disadvantaged firms in technological innovation.

  SOCOM SBIR Program Mission

While the DoD SBIR program's overall mission is to leverage small business technology innovation for the Warfighter and the Nation, the SOCOM SBIR program specifically funds the development of advanced technology that provides increased capability for the SOF Warfighter.

  SBIR History

In 1982, Congress created the SBIR program to foster technological innovation in the small business community in an effort to promote the Nation's economic growth and at the same time meet federal needs for R&D. Specific federal agencies and military departments are mandated to participate and obligate a specified percentage of their extramural R&D budgets to SBIR projects.
