Success Stories
Phase III
SBIR Phase III refers to work that derives from, extends, or logically concludes effort(s) performed under prior SBIR funding agreements, but is funded by sources other than the SBIR program. Phase III work is typically oriented towards commercialization of SBIR research and technology. Because the SBIR process is a competitive down-select, any firm receiving a SBIR Phase I or Phase II award can later receive a sole-source contract for its technology. Phase III contracts can be written for any of these firms to further develop or procure their technologies.
SOCOM characterizes its SBIR commercialization success stories into the following four categories:
- SOCOM Commercialization
Refers to the sale of SOCOM SBIR-developed products or services back to SOCOM.
- Other Government Commercialization (includes DoD)
Refers to the sale of SOCOM SBIR-developed products or services to other Government agencies (including DoD).
- Private Sector Commercialization
Refers to the sale of SOCOM SBIR-developed products or services to the private sector, which includes international sales.
- Technology Demonstrations
Refers to demonstrations conducted to validate that the developed technology is suitable for its intended use.
